Internship Program Continues to Grow

Chesterton, IN-Lake Erie Land Company, along with Sand Creek Country Club, is proud to announce the continued success of an internship program that was created just last year. The objective of the program is to provide summer employment and a positive work experience to students, while helping them to achieve their goals during and after college.

This summer, four students are participating in the program. Levi Henninger, from Ohio State University is majoring in Turf Management, and will continue his studies this summer at Sand Creek Country Club.

Jordan Klein, from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, is majoring in Marketing/Professional Golf Management. Along with Levi, Jordan will continue his education this summer at Sand Creek Country Club.

Matt Kincius, who attends Purdue University North Central, is studying Building Construction Management and Architecture. Matt will be working at LEL in order to learn more about zoning requirements, compliance codes, as well as industry trends in green building materials, and storm water management.

John-Michael Hutchins, from the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, is studying Environmental Science and will graduate in December 2002. He will be working with the Coffee Creek Watershed Conservancy this summer in order to learn more about the Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve. All four students began their internships in May, and they will end in August.

Two of the students live locally, while the other two are utilizing housing made available by Lake Erie Land Company.

These students will have the opportunity to be involved in special projects, meet nationally recognized industry professionals, and develop relationships with professionals at Lake Erie Land Company and Sand Creek Country Club, and also consultants. Some students will be working very closely with Lake Erie consultants J.F. New & Associates and Howard Design, who will give them exposure to a broad range of environmental planning and engineering.

"We are very excited about the possibilities and exposure that the students will have, and strive to improve the program every year," said Diane Anselm, Director of Human Resources and Sand Creek Membership Services.

In order to be eligible for an internship at Lake Erie Land Company, a student must have one year of college completed, must currently be enrolled at a college and returning to school in the upcoming fall, and must also be able to work 40 hours per week.
