Chesterton, IN-Lake Erie Land Company president Mr. Jerry Mobley was nominated for the 2000 National Wetland Award, in the land stewardship and development category, for his innovative and leading edge wetland and environmental protection efforts at Coffee Creek Center, and also for the development project of the Little Calumet River Basin.
The National Wetlands Awards (NWA) program recognizes exceptional individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary effort, innovation, and excellence in wetland conservation through programs or projects at the regional, state, or local level. Program co-sponsors- the Environmental Law Institute, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service-believe that rewarding these efforts helps ensure that future generations will have quality wetlands, biological diversity, and clean water. Support for Mobley's nomination included representatives from the Little Calumet River Basin, J.F. New & Associates, Conservation Design Forum, and William McDonough + Partners.
