Chesterton, IN-Lake Erie Land Company is proud to announce the start of the first commercial building in Coffee Creek Center. Steel Family Health Care Center, a partnership between Bethlehem Steel, National Steel, and US Steel began construction early this summer. The 12,000 square foot facility will provide quality, cost effective health care to employees, retirees and the families of the three companies, while bringing an estimated 50 new jobs to the Chesterton community.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at 11:00 at the Coffee Creek Center Water Plaza. Larry Zizzo, Vice President of Human Resources at National Steel, stated, "On behalf of National Steel, we are very excited to be a part of this partnership. Our partners in this venture have experience with this, but National is "breaking ground" as a Corporation by joining this venture. We want to thank Bethlehem, US Steel, CHD Meridian and the USWA for sharing their knowledge with us. I'm sure as we go forward with this project we will all benefit from their experience." According to Zizzo,"Coffee Creek provides a unique opportunity to have a facility that is easy for people to get to-this is a great location." James Carney of US Steel stated, "The new Steel Family Health Care Center will allow US Steel to better serve the health care needs of the 9,000 or so employees, families of employees and retirees who live in the Chesterton area. Together, US Steel, Bethlehem Steel and National Steel will create a well-equipped and well-staffed medical center which would have been impractical for each company to undertake alone." The Steel Family Health Care Center is scheduled to open January 2001.
